“I actually wrote Belushi back in 2014. I was tired of the same annoying, ambitionless, commercial, cookie-cutter music that was being accepted into the mainstream. I was gripped with a deep desire to just wash it out of existence, stand up for the true essence of music... start a revolution.
I released the song in early 2020, racial and social injustice still alarming as ever, and found the song taking on whole different meanings, but the message remaining the same. If anything, it has more purpose, power, and relevance now than when I first wrote it, and that shows how desperately necessary change really is." - Chief Cleopatra
lyrics
Verse 1
I wanna write a song that people can feel
I ain’t talking ‘bout the fake people, ‘cause they can’t feel what’s real
If you’re on a mission like I am
Then get up off your feet, come with me, start to jam.
Pre chorus
You better come on, come on.
Yeah you better come on, come on.
Yeah you better come on, come on.
Ooh you better come on...
Chorus
In my mind I start a revolution...
In my mind I start a revolution,
Yeah, I smoke with John Belushi.
Verse 2
Said I’m not playing around, I wanna make you dance.
Wanna make you forget, you have problems before you heard this band.
If you ain’t with me, then I guess you’re against me.
Gonna start a little army of folks that stand proudly with me.
Pre chorus
And we’re marching, marching.
Yeah and we’re marching, marching.
And we’re marching, ooh yeah yeah said we’re marching.
In my mind I start a revolution...
In my mind I start a revolution,
Yeah, I smoke with John Belushi.
Bridge
Said I ain’t wasting no time, I saw it with my two eyes oh yeah.
I start a revolution.
Said I ain’t wasting no time, I saw it with my two eyes oh yeah.
I start a revolution.
Pre Chorus
marching, marching.
Yeah and we’re marching, marching.
And we’re marching, ooh yeah yeah said we’re marching.
In my mind I start a revolution...
